Professional development should be a passion for ALL Butler faculty as we work together to perpetuate successful reform in education. At its best it will be faculty-driven that is meaningful and perpetual.
It is exciting to see what other instructors are doing in the other departments. It has given me the time opportunity to watch and observe others and obtain new ideas to use in the classroom. Even after 30 years in the classroom, I can learn "new teaching tricks". It has also given me the chance to share some of the "tricks" I have learned over the years.
I have watched faculty development change in my short time at BCCC through our new inter-disciplinary approach that is faculty centered. At other institutions, I often sat through administrators talking at me during faculty development sessions, but the FDT works to bring faculty, their know-how and needs into the process. This has led to faculty development that is not only hands on, applicable and well-rounded but is also fun to attend.
